WHY NONDENOM?

    We Are a Non-denominational Church

We are a non-denominational church because we believe it is wrong to accept the authority of any man or institution which does not place the Word of God as the highest authority.  Denominations usually require acceptance of a creed which often does not completely line up with the Bible.  This is the reason there are so many denominations; not because there are many different valid interpretations of the Bible (since the Bible states this is not so in 2 Peter 1:20), but rather because many individuals will not accept what the Word of God says.  Most denominations began well; the problem is they became stuck in their traditions and refused to push on for the higher calling unto which God was drawing them.  There have been many great moves of God in the past.  We embrace the godly aspects of each of these moves, but we refuse to get stuck in the mud at any one place.  The Reformation restored the truth of the emphasis which must be placed upon salvation by faith.  The Baptist movement restored the correct form of baptism by immersion.  The holiness movement of the 1800's restored some of God's standards.  The Pentecostal movement at the beginning of the 1900's restored the understanding and application of the power of God's Spirit.  The healing revivals in the middle of the 1900's restored the understanding of the goodness of God and the occurrence of the miraculous on a regular basis. The Charismatic revival of the 1960's and 70's laid a foundation for the merging of Spirit and Wisdom, power and intellect.  The faith movement of the 80's returned the understanding of how we are to live by faith in the miraculous.  And God is still moving!  But we are still a long way from where the early church was – when the power of God was witnessed all the time, when a person's shadow could fall upon a person and the person would be healed, when James could write that if anyone is sick, "the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick (James 5:15)."  Our goal is to return to the holiness, power and genuine love of that 1st century church.  God has more for us, but we will never get there until the glory of the early church is first restored. Most of our current revivals are little more than a partial restoration of what was held by the 1st century church. We refuse to stop at any of the revivals of the past, but will push on to the fulness of what God desires for His Church and His world.
